11-year-old boy killed by hit-and-run driver in West Valley City

The boy was on a sidewalk when he was struck.

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed an 11-year-old boy on a sidewalk in West Valley City late Wednesday.

According to police, the boy and his mother were walking south on 4000 West near 4200 South at about 11:40 p.m. when a car veered up onto the sidewalk and struck the 11-year-old. The driver did not stop.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

Few details about the fatality have been released. Investigators believe the vehicle that struck the boy was light-colored, possibly white or silver. It may have been a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck or a similar make and model, and has front-end damage.
