A 13-year-old Eagle Mountain boy has died after police said he rode an electric scooter through a residential stop sign Wednesday and struck the side of a car.

Kayden Pennock was in critical condition when an ambulance took him from the scene of the wreck to Timpanogos Hospital in Orem, police said. He was later flown by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital, where he died.

According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was traveling west on Horizon Drive when he went through a stop sign and hit the car, which was headed southbound on Hummer Drive. The boy was thrown 70-80 feet.

The driver of the car is not considered at fault in the wreck, police said.

Kayden was “intelligent, loving, funny, caring, creative,” according to a GoFundMe page set up to help the boy’s family pay for medical and funeral expenses.

“He was a wonderful friend, son, brother and grandson,” the page states. “He was one of the best 13-year-olds around and he is going to be greatly missed by so many.”

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $13,700 as of Friday morning.
