A student at Green Canyon High School is in the hospital after a semitruck and school bus collided after school Friday, officials say.

Tim Smith, a spokesperson for the Cache County School District, said taking the student to the hospital was precautionary and the student had no major injuries.

The accident occurred at 100 North and Main Street in Smithfield around 1:45 p.m. The Cache County School District sent another bus to transport the uninjured children to their homes, but some parents came to pick up their children at the scene, Smith said.

Smith could not confirm how old the student who was taken to the hospital is. There were “a couple dozen” students on the bus when the crash occurred, Smith said.

Utah Highway Patrol will investigate the cause of the crash.
