The 31-year-old victim was riding a bicycle. Her girlfriend has been arrested.

A woman was shot to death in Salt Lake City early Tuesday morning as she was riding a bicycle.

Police received reports of five or six gunshots fired in the area of 900 West and South Temple about 3:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the 31-year-old victim had been killed; her name has not been released pending notification of relatives. A woman later identified as the victim’s girlfriend was reportedly performing CPR on her.

According to police, detectives learned that the girlfriend, also 31, and the victim had argued while riding their bicycles. Witnesses reported that the girlfriend shot the victim.

Afterward, the suspected shooter allegedly gave the gun to another person with instructions to hide it. The gun was later recovered from a storm drain.

The suspect has been booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of murder, obstruction of justice, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person. She is being held without bail.

The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been formally charged with a crime.
