Salt Lake City Police identify body found in Jordan River; will investigate the case as a homicide

The body that was discovered by the Salt Lake City Police Department on June 9 has been identified as Joseph Salas, SLCPD officials said Thursday.

Salas was 49 years old. SLCPD have determined the case to be a homicide and are seeking help from the public for available information.

Officers recovered Salas’ body after finding it floating in the Jordan River near 1300 West and North Temple.

SLCPD spokesperson Marie Stewart said that the cause of death will not be available at this time to protect the investigation, but said that investigators determined it a homicide after finding “trauma on the body.”

Stewart said that she did not know when the department made the determination and said it could have immediate.
