Man drowns in Lake Powell after wind apparently prevented him from returning to rental boat

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Subrahmaniyan Mathimohan.

A man from Arizona drowned in Lake Powell after he was unable to get back on a rental boat because of wind, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses say Subrahmaniyan Mathimohan, 34, went down a slide attached to a rental boat in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on May 22, a news release says. He was apparently not wearing a life jacket and couldn’t swim back to the boat because of windy conditions.

Park rangers and Coconino County Sheriff’s Office deputies were unable to locate Mathimohan on May 22. The search resumed the next day, and his body was found by the Glen Canyon Dive Team.
