Third person charged in fatal Christmas shooting in Riverdale

Prosecutors filed charges against a man accused of being involved in a shooting that killed a Riverdale man and left his girlfriend seriously injured on Christmas morning.

Liam Gale, 31, has been charged in the death of 36-year-old Trevor Anthony Martin. Police found Martin and his girlfriend, both of whom had been shot, after being called to a mobile home park at 5100 S. 1050 West in Riverdale on reports of a shooting. Martin later died from his wounds.

Gale was charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery and burglary, according to court documents. Those charges were filed as a gang enhancement under Utah’s anti-gang law because prosecutors say multiple people were working together. All of those charges are first degree felonies. Brittany Ann Rogers, 31, and 16-year-old Rayburn Jimmy Bennett were charged in connection with the same shooting in December.

Gale admitted he had Rogers drive himself and Bennett to a home in Riverdale where they planned to commit a robbery, according to court documents. Gale and Bennett allegedly forced their way inside. Gale admitted to hitting the woman who lived in the home with his gun and said he accidentally fired it. He said he saw Martin fighting with Bennett. Gale fired several shots at Martin with his gun and then shot him several more times with a gun Bennett had, court documents allege.
