Kearns fire kills man and his dog

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of a house fire that killed a man and his dog Thursday morning in Kearns.

According to Unified Fire, firefighters from West Jordan and West Valley City arrived at a home at 4340 W. 5335 South about 9 a.m. to find it in flames. They were able to put the fire out, but they found the body of a 42-year-old man and the dog in the basement. A second person was able to get out of the house without injury.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
