Police searching for man in connection with gas station shooting in South Salt Lake

South Salt Lake police are looking for a person of interest in a shooting at a gas station on Friday.

According to police, Justin Michael Brinton, 40, is believed to be the driver of a Dodge Durango that was seen on security footage at the gas pumps when the shooting occurred at about 6:30 a.m., at the Maverik convenience store at 3260 S. West Temple.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot in the face. He remains hospitalized, and his condition has been upgraded from critical to “stable,” police said.

Brinton frequents tent cities where people experiencing homelessness camp in Salt Lake, Duchesne and Roosevelt counties, according to police. He was last known to be driving a silver 2004 Dodge Durango with Utah license plates F141EJ.

He is considered armed and dangerous, police say. Anyone who sees him is urged to call 911 and not approach him.
