An inmate at the Weber County Jail died by suicide Thursday night, the sheriff’s office announced.

The man, whose name hasn’t been released, was found hanging in his cell around 11 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. Staff reported they checked on him 30 minutes before he was found dead and that he “appeared to be OK.”

The man “had been struggling with mental health issues” and jail staff was caring for him, including sending him for treatment outside the jail, the office said.

The office said it would not release anymore information until they’d notified the man’s next of kin.
