Police ID victim killed in South Salt Lake stabbing. One man is in custody.

South Salt Lake police have released the name of a man stabbed to death in an apartment near 200 East and Cordelia Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Police arrived at the apartment shortly after 6 a.m. on Wednesday and found Riley Nagle, 27, dead inside. He had been stabbed in the chest with a knife.

According to police, when they approached the 69-year-old man who lived in the apartment, he “made a spontaneous statement that he was the one that stabbed the guy.” When the suspect was later questioned, he again “admitted ... to having stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife,” according to a probable cause statement.

According to a police spokeswoman, the suspect — concerned about his mental health — had contacted the victim on Tuesday evening. Police believe the victim went to the apartment to act as support for the suspect.

The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of murder and aggravated assault. His bail was set at $110,010.
