Hogle Zoo welcomed a new resident earlier this month.

The Salt Lake City facility announced Thursday afternoon that a 5-pound baby gorilla was born July 6 to first-time mom Jabali and father Husani.

The still unnamed female baby gorilla represents the first successful birth of a western lowland gorilla in the 42-acre zoo’s 89-year history.

“This is unbelievably exciting,” ape keeper Clair Hallyburton said in a statement. “We’ve been looking forward to this for so long. We did everything we could to prepare and it’s gone better than we could have hoped.”

Zoo guests are able to visit the baby gorilla daily from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. by reserving a time slot at hoglezoo.org. Viewing will be done indoors and masks are required.
