Independence Day falls on a Saturday this week, and that means Friday is the official day off for most workers.

State offices, banks and other businesses will be closed July 3 — but Utah’s state-run liquor stores will remain open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., officials with the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control announced Tuesday.

The outlets will be closed, however, Saturday for the July 4 holiday.

Later in the month, for Pioneer Day, liquor stores will be closed on Friday, July 24, but will be open Saturday, July 25.

Customers are required to wear masks in all stores — no matter where they live in the state, said Cade Meier, DABC deputy director. In some cases, patrons may be asked to remove the face covering for “just a moment” to check ID.

Gov. Gary Herbert issued an executive order recently calling for face coverings to be worn in all state buildings.
