Letter carrier pinned between two cars in Lehi; driver cited for DUI

Police in Lehi say a driver — suspected of being intoxicated — hit a mail carrier with his car Tuesday, smashing the postal worker’s legs.

The letter carrier was seriously injured and underwent surgery Tuesday night, said Lehi police Sgt. Robert Marshall. The driver was cited for driving under the influence and released, Marshall said.

The incident happened about 2:30 p.m. at the corner of 2300 West and 70 North in Lehi. The letter carrier was delivering mail to boxes and was at the rear of his van when he struck by the car.

The driver, in a four-door sedan, was traveling south on 3200 West. Marshall said the car drifted out of its lane and struck the mail carrier and his van.
