Utah woman dies from injuries suffered in ATV accident

Provo • A Utah woman died as a result of injuries sustained during an accident while riding an all-terrain vehicle, authorities said.

The woman was riding 4-wheel ATVs with a friend at the Little Sahara Sand Dunes in West Desert Sunday, The Daily Herald reports.

The name of the 37-year-old Saratoga Springs woman was not immediately made public by authorities.

Chief Deputy Brent Pulver of the Juab County Sheriff’s Office in Nephi said the accident occurred when the woman went over a dune with a sharp drop.

“When you ride over a dune and go over, you don’t know how steep it is,” Pulver said. “She went over the front of the 4-wheeler.”

There was no indication the vehicle ran over the woman, who was alone on her vehicle and wearing a helmet, Pulver said.

The woman's friend administered CPR and a medical helicopter and ambulance were dispatched, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, Pulver said.

She appeared to have suffered significant internal injuries, but the state medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, Pulver said.
