Utah couple killed when their small plane crashes in California

A Salt Lake City couple were killed when their small plane crashed in California.

John Wells, 60, and Tara Wells, 56, died when their single-engine plane crashed in a field about 1,000 feet short of the runway at Camarillo Airport — about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles in Ventura County — about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They were the only people on board.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the couple were flying in a home-built, experimental Express Series 2000 plane. Officials have not determined who was flying the plane. The NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
