Provo teen dies after moped crash in church parking lot, police say

(Photo courtesy Provo Police) Provo Police are investigating a moped crash that happened Friday in a church parking lot at 350 N. 900 East, Provo. A 17-year-old rider fell off the moped, and later died from his injuries.

A teen died after crashing a moped in a Provo church parking lot, police reported Tuesday.

The crash happened Friday night in the parking lot of a young single adult ward building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 350 N. 900 East, Provo.

Provo police tweeted that the teen fell off his moped. He was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, and died from his injuries. Police said medical personnel were able to keep him alive long enough for his family to say goodbye.

The teen has been identified as Colby Gruel, 17, a student at Pleasant Grove High School.

Police said the crash is still under investigation, but appears to be an accident.
