Plane crash in southern Utah kills two people

A small plane crashed in southern Utah on Friday, killing both people on board.

Crews responded to the crash about 11:20 a.m. after witnesses reported hearing an explosion. They located the single-engine aircraft in a remote stretch along Miner’s Mountain Road, according to a news release from Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The plane had been hovering over the desert above Grover when people on the ground said it suddenly disappeared. When deputies got to the scene, pieces of the debris were on fire.

The two individuals inside were dead, the release states. Their names have not yet been released.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
