The Salt Lake Tribune is currently seeking approval from the IRS to move to a nonprofit model, supported by donations and a separate foundation focused on local journalism.

The move is intended to stabilize and sustain The Tribune’s operations after years of declining revenue, staff layoffs and turbulent ownership changes. But the newspaper’s plans are also largely unprecedented, prompting questions about structure, content and editorial tone from readers and observers both inside and outside the state.

On this week’s episode of “Trib Talk,” Tribune Editor Jennifer Napier-Pearce joins reporter Benjamin Wood to discuss the future of The Salt Lake Tribune and journalism in Utah.
