A Utah woman was arrested earlier this week after she allegedly gave her sleepy boyfriend a spoonful of drain cleaner instead of medicine in an attempt to kill him.

South Salt Lake police learned of the alleged poisoning when they were called to a Salt Lake City urgent care center around 8:40 p.m. Monday. Medics told officers they were treating a 50-year-old man who’d swallowed drain cleaner, according to a probable cause statement.

The man’s girlfriend, Elle Weissman, 43, told police she’d given the man drain cleaner while he was partially asleep because she wanted him to “go into eternal sleep.”

“[Weissman] stated that by eternal sleep she meant death,” according to court documents.

The man survived and is still in the hospital, a news release from South Salt Lake police stated.

Weissman was booked into Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, a second-degree felony, and surreptitious administering of a certain substance, also a second-degree felony.
