Police say Utah man was shot four times when he tried to break up fight

A man was shot four times when he tried to break up a fight Monday in West Valley City, police said.

The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. when two people were having a disagreement near 3850 W. Benview Ave., FOX 13 reported. A witness who was on the other street tried to intervene, police said.

“He came over across the street to help out and figure out what was going on, at that point the shooter didn’t like what he was saying and the gun was pulled,” West Valley City Police Lt. Justin Wyckoff told FOX 13.

One of the people who were fighting shot the man four times, striking him once in the abdomen and twice in the back, and grazing his head, police said.

The man crawled back across the street and was taken to a hospital, where he was expected to survive, police said.

According to police, the shooter remains at large on Tuesday.
