Search underway for skier missing after avalanche reported

Clear Creek • Authorities in central Utah are searching for a skier reported missing in a canyon where an avalanche was reported.

The Emery County Sheriff’s Office says another skier went for help late Friday after the missing man failed to complete a run in an area north of Electric Lake where the other skier then discovered an avalanche.

No identities were released.

The Sheriff’s Office says searchers from Emery and neighboring Sanpete County and a Utah state police helicopter were searching Saturday after limited searching was conducted Friday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Utah Department of Transportation workers planned to use explosives to allow searching in areas deemed to be unstable.
