Funeral services for fallen South Salt Lake Police officer will be Wednesday at the Maverik Center

Funeral services for a South Salt Lake Police officer killed when he was struck by a car driven by a fleeing suspect have been scheduled for Wednesday at the Maverik Center.

Officer David Romrell, 31, and his partner were responding to a report of a burglary on Saturday when they confronted a suspect, Felix Anthony Calata, in his car. Calata accelerated, striking and killing Romrell before he was himself shot and killed by police.

A public viewing is scheduled for Wednesday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Maverik Center, at 3200 Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

A procession to Larkin Mortuary, at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road in Sandy, will follow.

The South Salt Lake Police Department also announced a candlelight vigil in honor of Romrell on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Columbus Community Center at 2531 S. 400 East.
