Family says father and 9-year-old son died in Provo barn fire

(GoFundMe) According to family members, 9-year-old Marcos Sierra Jr. and his father were killed in a fire at Finch Family Farm in Provo on Monday.

A father and his 9-year-old son died in the fire that destroyed several buildings at a Provo farm on Monday morning.

Police have confirmed the deaths but have not officially released the identities of the victims. However, family members have identified them as Marcos Sierra and his son, Marcos Sierra Jr., and have begun a GoFundMe page.

The cause of the fire, which began about 1:30 a.m. at Finch Family Farm at 358 S. 2570 West, remains under investigation.

Provo Fire Captain Dean York told FOX 13 that the victims, who boarded several animals at the farm, were trapped in one of three barns that burned.

"Looks like they locked themselves in with a padlock for the evening,” he said. “They were not able to get that padlock off, and so they passed away there inside that stall.”

The fire caused an estimated $300,000 damage and also killed several horses, goats and chickens.
