A construction crew found a crate of mining-era dynamite while working on an older home in the Old Town area Monday morning, Park City officials said, causing evacuations.
Park City police Capt. Phil Kirk said that the explosives were discovered just before 10 a.m. on the 900 block of Empire Avenue.
Shortly before 1 p.m., the Unified Fire Authority Bomb Squad arrived to remove the dynamite, Park City officials tweeted.
Residents were evacuated from Crescent Street to 12th Avenue and between Lowell Avenue and Empire Avenue and were given shelter at the library until the bomb squad safely removed the dynamite.
Residents were permitted to return to the area about 1:45 p.m.
