A new restaurant is now open in an old building made new in the Granary District.

Culinary Dropout is open at 765 S. 400 West, inside the rebuilt Utah Pickle Company building, according to a news release. This is Culinary Dropout’s 18th restaurant nationwide and the concept’s first location in Utah, the release said.

The restaurant was started in Arizona by Sam Fox, who’s been a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurateur 11 times.

The menu is full of comfort food with some Asian dishes and influences mixed in, with items like barbecue carnitas nachos next to wagyu pigs in a blanket — and sushi.

Culinary Dropout’s menu also has a variety of beverages, from shots, cocktails, beer and wine to “minimal consequences” (non-alcoholic drinks) and “dirties” (its spin on Utah’s dirty sodas).

Brunch is served at Culinary Dropout on the weekends, and there’s live music every Thursday through Saturday.
