Trader Joe’s confirms a seventh Utah location will open soon. Here’s where.

The grocery chain historically doesn’t announce new store openings until they are close to happening.

(Chris Samuels | The Salt Lake Tribune) A Trader Joe’s grocery store in Salt Lake City in 2022. The company, which is historically tight-lipped about new store openings, confirmed that its seventh Utah location is coming soon.

Trader Joe’s is officially opening a location in Holladay, the company recently confirmed on its website — confirming news that came out in May during a meeting of Utah’s liquor commission.

In its monthly meeting on May 29, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services approved an off-premises beer retailer license for a Trader Joe’s at 1895 E. Rodeo Walk Drive

The location is part of a development being built on the site of the former Cottonwood Mall, which was demolished in 2008.

The supermarket chain hasn’t announced when the Holladay location will be opening, only saying “coming soon” on its website.

The company historically does not confirm or deny rumors of new store locations, and only announces openings shortly before they happen.

The Holladay location isn’t the only new Trader Joe’s that Utahns are looking forward to.

In December, Riverdale Mayor Braden Mitchell announced that the company would be opening a store in that Weber County city this summer.

Mitchell said the Riverdale store would open next to the Ashley Furniture store at 4060 Riverdale Road, near the Newgate Mall in a space that once held a Shopko.

Six months later, Trader Joe’s confirmed the Riverdale location, but the company still hasn’t announced an opening date.

The last Trader Joe’s store to open in Utah was in Sugar House last October. The grocery chain also has stores in Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Orem and near downtown Salt Lake City. The Riverdale and Holladay locations would bring the total of the company’s Utah stores to seven.
