A busy Sugar House corner is about to get a new food business. Here’s what’s moving in.

Sidecar Doughnuts is moving into the space previously occupied by By the Bucket: Hot Spaghetti to Go.

(Kolbie Peterson | The Salt Lake Tribune) A "coming soon" sign is shown in the window of a future location of Sidecar Doughnuts, at 701 E. 2100 South in Salt Lake City.

A corner storefront in Sugar House is getting a new business, one that hasn’t been seen outside of California.

According to a large sign in the window, Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee will be moving into the vacant space at 701 E. 2100 South in Salt Lake City. The sign doesn’t include an exact opening date, and instead just says “coming 2025.”

A representative from Sidecar Doughnuts confirmed that they are moving into the space.

This storefront was previously occupied by By the Bucket: Hot Spaghetti to Go, which opened in 2022 and closed in September 2024. For more than an decade, ending around 2018, the location was home to a Starbucks.

Sidecar Doughnuts declares that it has the “world’s freshest doughnuts,” and is known for its decadent cake doughnuts and yeast doughnuts. Its menu includes flavors like huckleberry, strawberry buttermilk and butter & salt. Customers can pair their doughnut with a beverage like the Black Onyx Mocha or banana bread latte.

Sidecar Doughnuts was founded in 2012 in Costa Mesa, California, and got its start as a food truck, its website says. In 2013, Sidecar Doughnuts opened its first brick-and-mortar location, in Costa Mesa, and started expanding north and south. Sidecar Doughnuts makes its doughnuts daily, from scratch, its website says.

The Sugar House location will be Sidecar Doughnuts’ first location in Utah, and appears to be its first outside of California.
