A favorite Salt Lake City coffee shop closes down ‘for a bit’ for maintenance

News of Jack Mormon Coffee closing initially worried regular customers of the Avenues business.

(Sean Means | The Salt Lake Tribune) Jack Mormon Coffee, in the Avenues, on Monday, March 11, 2024. A sign in the window notes that the coffee shop's closure is temporary.

Avenues residents were dismayed online to hear that a favorite local coffee shop had closed — but it turns out the closure is only temporary.

Jack Mormon Coffee Co., at 82 E St. in Salt Lake City’s Avenues neighborhood, has a sign up in one of their front windows that reads, “We will be down for maintenance for a bit” while they upgrade their water, power and equipment. The sign doesn’t indicate how long the closure will last.

An email sent to patrons said local pickup was suspended, but Jack Mormon Coffee’s online store is still open, so coffee lovers can still get their Cuarenteño beans, Texas Pecan Coffee and cold brew concentrate. Shipping is also free for all local orders at the moment, with the code “LOCAL” at checkout.

On social media, commenters were relieved to hear the closure was temporary — and emphasized the coffee shop’s importance in their daily coffee rituals.

“JM is a huge part of my little life here in the Aves,” one commenter said. Another said the coffee shop has been “our go-to place” since it opened.
