A new season of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ is out Thursday. Here’s a recap of all the drama on and off screen.

“There’s so much stuff the public doesn’t know,” MomTok member Mayci Neeley says in a trailer.

A whole lot has happened since the last season of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” was released earlier this year.

The Hulu reality television series, which follows a group of Utah mothers, TikTok creators and entrepreneurs, is set to release its fifth season on Thursday.

The season will recap drama that has already happened off screen, in social media comments and, in some cases, in courtrooms.

At the beginning of the year, the Hulu show temporarily paused filming after video of a 2023 domestic violence incident involving the show’s star, Taylor Frankie Paul, and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, was published by TMZ.

It led to a social media storm, Paul’s season of “The Bachelorette” being canceled, and a public falling-out among MomTok members.

Paul’s timeline, between social media spats and court cases with Mortensen to negotiate dueling protective orders, is expected to influence the new season’s plot points heavily.

“There’s so much stuff the public doesn’t know,” MomTok member Mayci Neeley says in a trailer for the new season.

At the end of season 4, a few themes emerged and are likely to carry over into season 5.

The fame and fortune fight is not for the weak.

As MomTok continues to grow beyond the Beehive State, between opportunities like “Dancing with the Stars” and starring on Broadway, the jealousy and competition are amped up.

This plays out between MomTok members Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck the most on season 4, though Neeley and Jessi Draper also feel some of the pressure. Leavitt has announced season 5 will be her last on the show.

Balancing motherhood, their businesses, content creation and their friendships and relationships heightens the stakes.

There are real issues at play for many of the MomTok members.

Many of the couples on the show are navigating complex marital issues, like Mikayla Matthews and Jace Matthews. Jordan Ngatikaura has already filed for divorce from Draper, who is rumored to be in a relationship with Marciano Brunette.

Others, like Layla Taylor, also confront difficult situations, like navigating an eating disorder.

Everyone is tired of the Dakota and Taylor saga.

Toward the end of season 4, frustrations from MomTok and Paul’s family members boil over when Paul sleeps with Mortensen and misses her flight to California for “The Bachelorette.” It’s clear that everyone is exhausted by the saga, which they characterize as “toxic.”

Season 5 will only have five episodes rather than 10. But the show has been renewed for 20 additional episodes, likely to be seasons 6 and 7.
