Apple TV acquires rights to a piece of Utah bestselling author’s literary universe

The fantasy author has sold more than 50 million copies of his books.

Cosmere fans have reason to rejoice.

Brandon Sanderson, a Utah-based bestselling author, is set to have two of his fantasy series come to a major streaming service.

Jabberwocky Literary Agency, which represents Sanderson, shared Wednesday that Apple TV has acquired the rights to two works in Sanderson’s literary universe, the “Cosmere.”

Sanderson’s “Mistborn” series is being looked at for a feature adaptation, while “The Stormlight Archive” series will be headed for a television adaptation.

The“Mistborn” series follows a group of thieves and assassins as they try to overthrow a corrupt empire, while “The Stormlight Archive” is an epic fantasy series that follows several different characters on the planet of Roshar.

No dates have been announced for either adaption.

Sanderson has sold over 50 million copies of his books. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sanderson’s fans helped raise $41 million for the author to publish four secret books.

His company, Dragonsteel Entertainment, also plans to eventually open a bookstore called Dragonsteel Plaza in Pleasant Grove.

Sanderson is also set to headline StoryCon, a Utah-based writing and literacy convention, at the end of February.
