A young man and a tiger
The national touring production of the Broadway play “Life of Pi” arrives at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main St., Salt Lake City, Tuesday through Sunday. The play is based on Yann Martel’s acclaimed novel of a young man cast adrift on the ocean in a small lifeboat that he shares with a tiger — which is portrayed by a team of puppeteers. Green River Rocks festival
Green River Rocks, an annual festival of geology and exploration, happens Friday through Sunday in Green River, Utah. Friday’s events start at the John Wesley River History Museum, with a keynote address at 6 p.m. by Craig Childs, who has followed ancient migration routes throughout the Southwest, and has written a dozen books. Events Saturday and Sunday include educational field trips (starting at Green River High School), hands-on experiences, access to experts, and a Saturday pop-up market featuring rocks, minerals and gems. David Lynch tribute at SLFS
The nonprofit Salt Lake Film Society is launching a monthlong tribute to the late director David Lynch, Friday and Saturday at the Broadway Centre Cinemas, 111 E. 300 South, Salt Lake City. The first weekend will feature Lynch’s 1980 drama “The Elephant Man,” starring John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins, and a program of Lynch’s early short films. “The Elephant Man” will screen Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 9 p.m.; the short films will be shown at 9:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday. Other films in the tribute: “Eraserhead” and “Mulholland Drive,” April 11-12; “Blue Velvet” and “Lost Highway,” April 18-19; and “Wild at Heart” and “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me,” April 25-26. “Rite of Spring” at Ballet West
Here’s a way to celebrate the season: “Rite of Spring,” choreographer Nicolo Fonte’s take on Igor Stravinsky’s famed work of life, death and rebirth, returns to Ballet West, with performances Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. It’s part of a program of Stravinsky-scored works, along with George Balanchine’s 1928 work “Apollo” and Jiří Kylián’s “Symphony of Psalms,” which is getting its premiere with Ballet West. More performances are set for Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 12, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. For tickets, go to balletwest.org.
