‘American Idol’ auditions are coming to Utah on Aug. 29

For the second time in three years and the fourth time overall, “American Idol” is coming to Utah looking for singing talent.

Auditions are scheduled in Salt Lake City for Thursday, Aug. 29 — although the exact venue has not been announced and all the dates are “subject to change,” according to the network.

Hopefuls must be at least 15 to participate. Go to americanidol.com/auditions for more information, including full eligibility requirements and submission forms.

Show auditions first came to Utah in July 2008, when “Idol” mania was at its peak in the wake of Utahn David Archuleta finishing second to David Cook the previous May. Thousands turned out. Auditions returned to the home of the Utah Jazz (since renamed Vivint Smart Home Arena) in July 2013, when the show’s ratings were fading. A fraction of that number auditioned.

About 1,000 auditioned in Provo in August 2017, when ABC revived “American Idol,” which was canceled by Fox in 2016.
