Utah’s bye week is here — and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Coming off a blowout win over West Virginia, the Utes left the contest banged up, with several key players sustaining injuries against the Mountaineers.
Safety Nate Ritchie went down with what appeared to be a serious injury. The sophomore was grabbing at his lower leg, and he was later seen wearing a leg brace and hopping around on crutches.
Two-way playmaker Jackson Bennee also left the game with what appeared to be a lower-leg injury. Unlike Ritchie, he remained suited up in pads on the sideline. Starting defensive tackle Dallas Vakalahi left midway through the game. He has already missed two games this season.
Sophomore running back Wayshawn Parker left Utah’s win with an unspecified injury but later returned to finish the game with 66 rushing yards and one touchdown reception.
Ute head coach Kyle Whittingham provided a brief update on the players’ health after the victory.
“We lost two, three or four guys,” Whittingham said. “We’ll reserve judgment until we get final medical evaluations. I don’t want to say something now that maybe is inaccurate.”
Utah already had multiple players go out with season-ending injuries before the contest, too. Senior safety Rabbit Evans suffered a season-ending lower-leg injury versus Wyoming, just a few plays into his season debut.
Utah also recently lost redshirt freshman tight end Hunter Andrews and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Daidren Zipperer for the 2025 season, as well.
