This Utah football player could miss the rest of the season with a ‘serious’ injury, Kyle Whittingham says

Utes safety Rabbit Evans could be done for the year.

Laramie, Wyo. • Utah senior safety Rabbit Evans made his season debut on Saturday at Wyoming after missing the last two games with an injury.

But, just a few plays later, Evans suffered a lower leg injury in the first half of Utah’s win. The Jacksonville, Fla., native was then carted off the field, and the diagnosis could be “season-ending,” according to Kyle Whittingham.

“It doesn’t look good,” Utah’s head coach said on Saturday. “It’s a lower leg injury that looks like it could be season-ending. So that’s unfortunate. I feel so bad for him. He’s worked so hard and just can’t seem to get a break.

“Like I said, it’s something pretty, pretty serious.”

Last season, Evans played in 11 contests and had five starts. He finished with 34 tackles (two tackles for loss) on the season, along with one quarterback hurry and one pass breakup.

Whittingham is hopeful that the safety can earn a redshirt year for 2026.

" I don’t know what his red shirt situation is,“ Whittingham said. ”Hopefully [we can] get him back for another year, maybe two years, depending on what the circumstances are."
