There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the Utah football program, and its new quarterback Devon Dampier.

On Monday, ESPN’s Pat McAfee shouted out the Utes and the junior quarterback, following their 43-10 over UCLA this weekend.

“This dude Devon Dampier, he’s a problem, an absolute problem,” McAfee said. “This guy had 19 rushing touchdowns last year. And now he also threw 12 touchdowns and [had] 12 picks.

“He’s unstoppable; it seems like you can’t even tackle him. Does UCLA suck? Maybe. We have no idea. They may absolutely suck. But I know this guy was electrifying. They went on a 21-play drive that was nine minutes and 44 seconds long. ... I didn’t even know that was possible to have a 21-play drive.”

In his debut start for the Utes, Dampier finished with 206 passing yards, 87 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. The New Mexico transfer also completed a whopping 84% of his passes against the Bruins.https://www.sltrib.com/sports/utah-utes/2025/09/01/tah-football-crushes-ucla-43-10/

Alongside Utah’s quarterback, McAfee went further to compliment the entire program. He even said Kyle Whittingham’s team could be the favorite to win the conference, outside of West Virginia, which is McAfee’s alma mater.

“You’re talking about an insanely powerful team,” McAfee said. “And you team that up with their defense that they’re always going to have in Utah, it’s like is this the year for the Utes man. ... they could be the favorite in the Big 12.”
