As college football season takes off this week, University of Utah fans may want to keep an eye on more than just the team’s injury reports.
That’s because a recent blog post from YouTube TV says that it and Fox, the TV network that will air the Utes’ season opener against UCLA (Saturday at 9 p.m. MDT), have yet to reach an agreement about showing Fox programming on the streaming platform.
YouTube TV says that if the two sides are unable to come to terms on a deal before Wednesday at 3 p.m. MDT, Fox channels (including local Fox stations like Fox 13), Fox News, FS1 and FS2, and Fox Business would become unavailable on the platform at that time.
“Fox is asking for payments that are far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive,“ YouTube TV wrote. ”Our priority is to reach a deal that reflects the value of their content and is fair for both sides without passing on additional costs to our subscribers.”
YouTube TV is now the third-largest pay-TV platform in the United States, growing in subscriptions as more traditional TV providers like Comcast and DirecTV shrink.
YouTube TV says that if Fox channels are pulled from the platform, users will receive a $10 credit.
Fox, meanwhile, hopes to send users to its subscription service, Fox One. It costs $19.99 per month, with a free trial for seven days.
