Utes QB Isaac Wilson starts vs. Arizona in place of injured Cam Rising for 3rd consecutive game
The true freshman quarterback is starting in place of the seventh-year quarterback, who is still ailing with a right-hand injury he suffered vs. Baylor four weeks ago.
(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes quarterback Isaac Wilson (11) as the Utah Utes host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, NCAA football in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024.
Isaac Wilson is starting in place of an injured Cam Rising for the third week in a row.
The seventh-year quarterback is still ailing from a right-hand injury he suffered vs. Baylor a few weeks ago. Rising was game-time decision and participated in pre-game warmups. He wore a black glove on his throwing hand and was dressed in pads, but it wasn’t enough to give him the nod under center.
Wilson, instead, trotted out with the starters for the third week in a row. He helped lead the Utes to a 22-19 win over a then-ranked Oklahoma State last Saturday, becoming the first starting true freshman quarterback in program history to win over an AP Top 25-ranked opponent.
The freshman quarterback has 550 passing yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.
