A champion gymnast says she’s returning to Utah for another year

Jaedyn Rucker will use her sixth year of eligibility to help the Red Rocks in their first Big 12 campaign.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Jaedyn Rucker celebrates her floor routine during the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships, at the Maverik Center in West Valley City on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Jaedyn Rucker isn’t done yet.

A two-time All-America selection and the 2022 NCAA vault champion has decided to return to the University of Utah next season, giving the Red Rocks another experienced leader to lean on next season.

Rucker will be able to use a sixth year of eligibility after missing the 2020 season with a knee injury.

“The last five years have been nothing short of amazing. I’m immensely grateful for the support I’ve received from my teammates, coaches, and all of you fans. It’s something I’ll forever hold close to my heart. My journey through gymnastics has presented both challenges and triumphs, each teaching me valuable lessons and propelling my growth in unexpected ways. My love for this sport runs deep, and I believe that I still have room to grow, more to learn, and more to give,” Rucker said in a news release.

She continued: “With great excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to continue, I’m thrilled to announce that I will be returning for my sixth and final year of gymnastics. Here’s to one more year of hard work and heart. Go Utes!”

Rucker, already a five-time all-Pac-12 honoree on vault and floor, will look to add to her accolades as the Red Rocks embark on their first Big 12 season.

“We could not be more excited to have Jaedyn return for her sixth year. Her motivation to return for another season is rooted in unfinished business at Utah and the desire to continue to grow as both an athlete and person,” said head coach Carly Dockendorf.

Utah made its NCAA-record 48th straight gymnastics championship appearance this month. The finished third in the country for the fourth year in a row.
