Utah responds to Florida player’s Rice-Eccles Stadium insult in viral post

A sellout crowd watched as Utah beat Florida 24-11.

(Rick Bowmer | AP) Utah fans hold a sign during the first half of the team's NCAA college football game against Florida on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, in Salt Lake City.

Utah football is taking its victory lap after beating Florida this week... and going viral on social media in the process.

After Florida defensive lineman Princely Umanmielen called Rice-Eccles Stadium a “Lil ah stadium” in an Instagram post before the game on Thursday, Utah athletics’ official Twitter account responded with this on Friday morning:

The post read: “Lil ah dub.”

Florida’s Ben Griffin Stadium holds some 88,548 fans.

Rice-Eccles Stadium set an attendance record as Utah welcomed its first SEC team into Salt Lake City. 53,644 fans attended the game, surpassing the previous record set when USC visited last year.

But the fan noise at least contributed to multiple false start penalties in Utah’s 24-11 win. The Gators committed nine penalties in total, wiping away a field goal and contributing to a Utah touchdown in the second quarter.

Umanmielen recorded one quarterback hurry and no tackles. During the night, his original Instagram post gained traction as Utah built a lead.
