The University of Utah in the last two years has gone all out to honor the memories of Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe, two players who died a year apart from different gunshot wounds.
The school erected a locker room display and started a scholarship. It commissioned hand-painted helmets depicting the players’ faces for a big game. It retired the No. 22 worn by both players.
Now as the Utes prepare to play in their second consecutive Rose Bowl, the team will see the names of their beloved teammates in Pasadena, Calif., too.
Two bricks with the names of Jordan and Lowe were recently placed in front of the Rose Bowl Stadium, according to a post on Twitter by Dedan Brozino, president of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation. They will “forever be a part of Rose Plaza,” he said in his tweet.
Each brick reads, “In loving memory” in all-caps with the names of Jordan and Lowe. They go on to say, “He lived his legacy.” Included in the bricks are “#UU22,” “#LLTJ” (Long Live Ty Jordan) and “RB” (Rose Bowl).
The Utes face Penn State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2.
