The Utah women’s basketball team fell 77-60 to the No. 6 Arizona Wildcats at the Huntsman Center on Sunday.

The Wildcats took control with an 8-0 run in the opening quarter. They led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter and were never seriously threatened after that as the Utes made just four shots in the final period.

“I thought we competed,” Utah coach Lynne Roberts said. “The first quarter kind of crushed us and put us in a hole, but then for the most part after that we did well, defensively we did pretty good. Our turnovers just continue to crush us and to start the third quarter we had three in like 45 seconds and that set the tone.”

The Utes, who fell to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Pac-12, were led by Brynna Maxwell’s 11 points. Peyton McFarland added 10 points and 11 rebounds top record her first double-double.

The Utes are now off until Jan. 1, when they face Washington State.
