Senior forward Megan Huff posted 21 points and 12 rebounds Tuesday night and Utah rode a second-half surge to a 72-62 women’s basketball victory over Alabama at the Huntsman Center.

Daneesha Provo added 12 points, Kiana Moore had 11 and Dre'Una Edwards, the Pac-12 freshman of the week, scored 10 for Utah. Dru Gylten recorded 10 points and seven assists for the Utes (2-0). Alabama (1-1) was led by Jasmine Walker with 18 points.

Alabama was picked 10th in the 14-team Southeastern Conference preseason poll, comparable to Utah's eighth-place forecast in the Pac-12.

Huff posted 11 points and seven rebounds in the first half as the Utes took a 32-29 lead. Utah's Dre'Una Edwards turned her steal into a drive for a 3-point play, giving her team the lead in the final minute and Alabama failed to launch a last shot before the buzzer.

Provo's 3-pointer late in the third quarter gave the Utes a 51-42 lead entering the final period.

The Utes will continue their three-game homestand Friday (7 p.m.) against Long Beach State.
