Utah men’s basketball team will have a Thursday-Saturday pattern for most Pac-12 home games

Coach Larry Krystkowiak will like a schedule that gives his team only one Sunday contest.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Donnie Tillman speaks with the press during media day at the Ute basketball practice facility on Wed. Sept. 26, 2018.

The Utah men’s basketball team will play only one Sunday game in 2018-19, hosting Colorado in January, with the Pac-12 finalizing the dates and times of the conference schedule Thursday.

Ute coach Larry Krystkowiak didn’t like a 2017-18 schedule that had his team playing on four consecutive Sundays, disrupting the players' practice and academic routines. This season’s schedule also gives fans a more traditional pattern, with all of four traveling pairs of Pac-12 teams that visit the Huntsman Center coming on Thursday and Saturday.

The Utes will miss home games vs. California and Stanford and road games vs. Oregon and Oregon State in 2019 in the Pac-12's scheduling rotation.

The Utes will play the College of Idaho in an exhibition game Nov. 1 and open the season Nov. 8 vs. Maine. Times have been assigned for all of their games, other than the variable of their contests in the Wooden Legacy that follow a first-round game vs. Hawaii in Fullerton, Calif.
