The Runnin’ Utes roster received a significant boost on Friday.

Both Gach, a four-star, 6-foot-7 forward/guard combo from Chandler, Ariz., committed to the Utah basketball program Friday afternoon, choosing the Utes over San Diego State and Texas Tech. Gach is ranked No. 37 at his position in the 2018 class by 247Sports. He explained his decision to commit to Utah on his Twitter account, thanking his family and coaches for helping him throughout the process.

Gach’s Twitter post referenced himself as “The Missing Piece,” with Utah’s incoming 2018-18 freshmen class that already includes shooting guard Naseem Gaskin (Oakland, Calif.), small forward Timmy Allen (Mesa, Ariz.), power forward Riley Battin (Oak Park, Calif.) and center Lahat Thioune (Melbourne, Fla).

Gach transferred to Arizona Compass Prep school in Chandler for his senior season, but made the announcement Friday inside his former high school gym in Austin, Minn.

Alongside the talented group of freshmen the Utes have forthcoming is 6-foot-3 guard Charles Jones, who will transfer to Utah after time at the College of Southern Idaho. Jones was named the NCJAA basketball player of the year, averaging 15 points per game and shooting 47 percent from the field and 43 percent of beyond the arc.
