(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham as the University of Utah hosts Washington State, NCAA football in Salt Lake City, Saturday November 11, 2017.

The Utes enjoyed a successful football recruiting weekend as they picked up a trio of three-star commitments, including one junior college player, from Texas on Sunday.

Blake Kuithe, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end and his brother Brant Kuithe, a 6-3, 212-pound running back for Cinco Ranch High School, joined Blinn College defensive back Vonte Davis (6-1, 180 pounds) in announcing their commitments to the Utah football program following campus visits this weekend.

Brant Kuithe has been listed as an athlete by 247Sports. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns while earning district MVP honors in 2017. Blake Kuithe was an honorable mention all-state honoree.

The Kuithe brothers from Katy, Texas, previously committed to Rice University. Rice fired its coach following the season. Davis played for the same junior college program from which the Utes recruited graduating senior wide receiver Kyle Fulks and current defensive backs Corrion Ballard and Josh Nurse.

The Utes incoming recruiting class now includes four players who’ve played either high school or junior college football in Texas, an area Utes coach Kyle Whittingham has deemed a “primary” recruiting ground for the Utes during his tenure at the helm of the program. The Utes wrapped up their season in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl last month season.

Six players signed letters of intent to play for Utah during the first year of the NCAA’s early signing period for football in December, including offensive lineman Braeden Daniels from Carrollton, Texas.

In-state recruits offensive lineman Hunter Lotulelei (Highland), offensive lineman Jaren Kump and tight end Tevita Fotu (Herriman) and wide receiver Delon Hurt from California each committed prior to the early signing period with intentions of not signing until February.

Since the early signing period, the Utes have also received commitments from East High standout defensive lineman Paul Maile, and linebacker Andrew Mata’afa from California.
