If you ask him, he makes it sound like almost any young Australian can do what he does. And yet Tom Hackett does what he does better than anybody in the history of the Pac-12, according to an "All-Century" team unveiled Wednesday by the TV network owned by 100-year old conference.
Hackett is the team's youngest member, only active Pac-12 player and lone Ute.
He became the conference's only Ray Guy Award winner last season, honoring the nation's best punter, and is one of three semifinalists again this year.
He sits third in the nation with a 47.8-yard average, and 102 of his 236 career punts have been downed inside the 20 — including 48 inside the 10 and 18 inside the 5. He's also 3-for-3 in picking up a first down on fakes.
"This will be something I will look back on for the rest of my existence," Hackett said in a news release. "I'm not entirely sure to whom I owe for this honor, to be included with such legends in the game."
To whom he owes: a panel of 119 former players, coaches and media.
Hackett's all-century teammates include 25 Trojans, five Wildcats, four Bruins and Cardinal, three Sun Devils, Golden Bears and Ducks, two Huskies and one Cougar.
