Utah State Aggies will play Saturday’s home football game against Fresno State without fans

Chris Detrick | The Salt Lake Tribune Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium at Utah State University Wednesday August 17, 2016.

Utah State football’s game against Fresno State on Saturday will be held without fans, the university announced Tuesday.

The decision was made in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in a time where hospitalizations and case rates have skyrocketed throughout the state. Gov. Herbert unveiled new restrictions Sunday, including a statewide mask mandate.

The Aggies welcomed 5,116 fans to Maverik Stadium for their home opener against San Diego State on Oct. 31.

The university said in a news release that fans who bought a ticket to Saturday’s game will receive an automatic refund.

The Aggies are 0-3 to start the season and recently fired coach Gary Andersen.
