The Utah Mammoth picked up their first two points of the NHL season, beating the Nashville Predators 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night.
“When the game’s on the line, every shift matters and that’s when we want to be at our best,” said Dylan Guenther, who five-holed Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros for the game-winner and his second goal of the year.
Now Utah will wait for word on the health of one of its top defensemen.
Moments before Guenther scored the game-winning goal, defender Sean Durzi took a hard hit and had to rush to the bench, where he held his shoulder in obvious pain.
Durzi missed 52 games last season after suffering a shoulder injury just four games into the campaign. He was sidelined for five months after undergoing surgery.

“No, I don’t have an update,” Mammoth coach Andre Tourigny said when asked about Durzi after the game.
The Mammoth got goals from Logan Cooley, Jack McBain and Guenther to grab their first win of the young season.
“It’s huge,” said McBain, whose first goal of the season tied the game at 2-2 in the third. “You look back at last year and we had a ton of overtime games that went the wrong way for us. When you’re sitting there at the end of the year and you’re in a playoff race, those are the ones you look back at.”
The Mammoth will next travel to Chicago to play the Blackhawks on Monday night.
