Fan says he was kicked out of Utah stadium for wearing ‘Make America Great Again’ hat

“We have apologized to the fan and gladly invite him and his family to attend Real Salt Lake matches in the future,” RSL said in a statement.

Real Salt Lake has apologized for asking a fan to take off a red “Make America Great Again” hat during a match.

In a video posted on X, the fan said he was kicked out of America First Field in Sandy during Saturday’s game against Sporting Kansas City for refusing to remove the hat.

The club later issued an apology to the fan.

“We have apologized to the fan and gladly invite him and his family to attend Real Salt Lake matches in the future,” RSL said in a statement shared on social media. “Real Salt Lake has a vibrant and diverse fanbase and we invite them to continue to unite our community through the power of sport and the beautiful game.”

RSL’s code of conduct prohibits “signs, symbols or images … advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issue, or government action.”

But Major League Soccer said the policy does not include apparel such as hats.

In July, another fan was removed from a Major League Soccer match in St. Louis for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.
